Surat: Ahead of the inauguration of the Ved-Varyav river bridge in Surat, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) teams, joined by the police, cleared an illegal graveyard and dargah that were obstructing the approach road of the bridge on the Ved side of the river Tapi.
Massive preparations were made to carry out the operation in a peaceful manner. The teams of SMC from Katargam, Rander, and Athwa zones were gathered along with the SMC's watch and ward department, fire brigade, and garden department strengths. The operation against encroachment started at midnight, and by 8 a.m., even the approach road had been built, replacing the dargah and graveyard.
Removal of the dargah was essential to opening the portion of the approach road on the Ved village side. 20 by 80-size construction was removed promptly. Within four hours, the SMC teams shifted soil the size of 200 trucks. The Deputy Commissioner, City Engineer, Additional City Engineer, Superintendent Engineer, and other senior officials were present when the operation was carried out.
As many as 170 policemen were present to cordon off and seal the area. 9 JCB machines, 1 porcelain machine, 45 trucks, and one loader machine were used for this operation. DeshGujarat
