Jun 12, 2023Ford Shows Off Mustang Dark Horse Interior
There's an all-new Ford Mustang coming for 2024, and a new high-performance model to go with it. The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is the most powerful edition of the remodeled pony car, at least for the 2024 model year.
We’ve known since last fall that the Dark Horse would appear, packing a 500-horsepower version of Ford's glorious-sounding 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine and a 6-speed TREMEC manual transmission (a 10-speed automatic is optional).
We expect a string of high-performance Mustangs over the next few years. But, at launch, the Dark Horse will be the most powerful option. Ford has not released any pricing details.
But Ford has now revealed photos of the Dark Horse's cabin for the first time.
Black and indigo blue are the theme, with some unique materials Ford hasn't used before. An anodized blue, lightweight titanium shift knob immediately draws the eye. Ford claims the expensive metal doesn't heat up like aluminum knobs. It's still the perfect-sized metal ball Mustang lovers are used to, and no, it's not a ball of solid hyper-expensive titanium. It's hollow.
Automatic transmission models get paddle shifters in the same shade, made of aluminum instead.
The blue theme carries over in indigo blue stitching throughout the upholstered surfaces. A Dark Horse Appearance Package uses grippy black Dinamica suede seating surfaces with indigo leather bolsters, blue seatbelts, and a cool blue effect inside seat perforations.
Carbon-fiber-grain trim surrounds the instrument panel. Ford says the grain was cut with lasers to "convey a more technical feel and reduce the amount of gloss" that can create glare on some carbon-fiber-look trim pieces.
Outside, the Dark Horse is available in a color Ford won't use on other Mustangs. Called Blue Ember, it's "a shade that features special effect pigments of deep blues infused with a warm amber hue." Buyers can choose from a pair of stripe options. A vinyl set covers the hood in three stripes. A painted set – likely more expensive – stretches across the roof and deck lid as well.
