There's a reason they tell you not to touch the art at an exhibit. It might fall and break into pieces.
That's exactly what happened recently in Miami when a woman touched a balloon dog porcelain sculpture by York County native Jeff Koons valued at $42,000 and it shattered into pieces, according to the Miami Herald.
The incident happened at a VIP preview event for Art Wynwood, a contemporary art fair in downtown Miami, the newspaper reported.
"When this thing fell to the ground, it was like how a car accident draws a huge crowd on the highway," Stephen Gamson, a Wynwood-based artist and art collector, told the Miami Herald.
Gamson told the paper he saw an older woman tap the sculpture, immediately knocking it off the pedestal.
But, the woman apparently doesn't have to worry about paying for the broken piece.
Bénédicte Caluch, an art adviser with Bel-Air Fine Art, told the paper that the artwork was covered by insurance.
